Looking For Great Halloween Movies?

Halloween is my favorite holiday, but some years it is a little too much. It is certainly a fun holiday, but also, an intense holiday, with the costume parties, the trick-or-treating and so on. That’s why I sometimes prefer to stay in on Halloween and avoid the hubbub by watching some great Halloween movies. In fact, just this past Halloween, I stayed in with my girlfriend and had a Halloween movie marathon. Here are some pieces of advice to creating your own Halloween movie marathon this Halloween.


You would be surprised how many Halloween movies there are out there. In fact, there are a couple of different types of Halloween movies to choose from. Most people immediately think of the scary/slasher type of Halloween movies like Scream or Friday the 13th. These are good choices, and certainly, the most popular. There are many more movies out there with this sort of set up – a serial killer (or killers) on the loose and a group of teen friends are the victims. These type of Halloween movies are especially popular with teens, but are enjoyed by people of all ages.

Personally, I enjoy a different kind of Halloween movie, the psychological or supernatural thriller. The most famous of these movies is probably the Exorist, which is scary without there being any murdering psychopaths in the film. Another great example of this type of film is Rosemary’s Baby, which also deals with the devil. These movies tend to have a harder time finding their audience right away, but become what are known as cult classics and whose fans are deeply passionate about these Halloween movies.

Finally, if you don’t much like scary movies at all, whether the slasher or the psychological, there are a lot of movies out there that involve Halloween without being too frightening. A classic example of this is the film, E.T., which has an entire sequence taking place on Halloween. Another film like this is Donnie Darko, though that definitely has some disturbing imagery to it. Finally, there are some movies like Gremlins that don’t have anything to do with Halloween and aren’t particularly scary, but fun to watch and enjoy.


Whichever way you go with your Halloween movies, a Halloween movie marathon is a great way to enjoy the holiday without a lot of the headaches and the complications. Besides, this is a holiday that centers around candy – what better way to enjoy these treats than with a handful of really great Halloween movies?

Finding Book Reviews…

People who love to read are usually seen carrying their latest book around, catching a few minutes of that page-turner on the bus or on their break. If you enjoy reading, but have been disappointed too many times, having relied on the jacket back blurb, you need a new strategy to zero in on those books which are the ones that keep you up late into the wee hours, just to find out what happens next. Using the free book reviews to find those great reads rarely proves a disappointing strategy. It takes little time to avail yourself of these free resources, it’s fun and in some cases, you might even meet some new like-minded friends online. Here are a few tips on exploring the wide world of reading to your benefit.

With the exception of the New York Times bestseller reviews, personally, I find book critics and publisher’s reviews to be ‘iffy’ at best. With all due respect, book critics are somewhat like restaurant critics. Dare I say there’s a bit of professional snobbery involved? Again, JMHO, but these people are simply individuals, reflecting their own personal foibles and taste in reading material. These free book reviews can be tainted by personal prejudice. For example, a critic may be influenced by a strict preference for ‘commercial literature’, that is, a book with esoteric meaning and hidden, idealistic or mystical qualities that mark the book as literary – in their opinion – while disdaining a great mystery novel or sci-fi books. Unless you scout out other free book reviews, this prejudice may not be readily apparent.

In the same vein, publishers are naturally prejudiced. They are promoting the book with one main thought in mind: profit. Again, a publisher’s book review is not necessarily suspect, but you’ll want to read a number of other, independent book reviews to gain the best sense from a variety of perspectives. Publisher’s reviews are often most useful in obtaining the gist and general flavor of the contents, as well as getting a take on the writer’s style.

So where do you find a more comprehensive listing of free book reviews, giving you a more well-rounded set of opinions? Obviously, if you’ve got a friend whose recommendations often prove reliable, the book they’ve just finished is probably a good bet.

One of the best resources for free book reviews are found on online bookstore sites. For example, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Borders all carry a list of not only the publisher’s reviews, but independent reader’s perspectives, which often prove to be the most reliable. These people have read the book and were sufficiently impressed – or disappointed – to take the time to give their take on the book in question. Sometimes you’ll find dozens of such free book reviews. One independent reviewer may point out the virtues of the author’s style, while another compares the book favorably with another author with whom you’re familiar. There’s always a naysayer who blasts the book as trite, unworthy of your time. All of these free book reviews gives you an opportunity to assess where each reader is coming from and form a more considered opinion, forming your own conclusion on the summaries provided.

Another great online resource are the reader’s forums. The members who take time to share their opinions are, just as you are, looking for other ordinary people’s opinions on books they might find for themselves. The reader’s forums have another advantage, in that you can learn of some of the more obscure titles you might never otherwise have come across on the major online bookstore sites.

Free book reviews abound on the net. Take advantage of them, before you rush out and buy a book based on just a publisher’s blurb on the back cover or a perhaps prejudiced critic’s take. Your money will undoubtedly be better spent.

How To Get A Distance Learning College Degree

It is no secret that the path to success is usually through education. People with college degrees make more money than those with high school degrees, and those with master’s or doctorate degrees make more than those with bachelor’s or associate’s degrees. Perhaps you feel like going back to school is too expensive, too difficult, or too time-consuming for your life. You are wrong. You can improve your marketability as a prospective employee or start a new and exciting career by obtaining a distance learning college degree.

What is a distance learning college degree? A distance learning college degree is, for all intents and purposes, no different than any other college degree, at least, in terms of results. The difference is in the process. A distance learning college degree is not worse or worth less than any other college degree. The same qualifications exist as far as future job placements and skill sets. The difference is simply in the process, and this difference is probably in your favor.

A distance learning college degree is not done in a traditional classroom. Correspondence courses have been going on for years through the mail. However, the Internet has changed the face of distance learning forever, and for the better. With the Internet, the difference between the actual experience of a classroom and an online classroom are negligible. Distance learning is more flexible; class lectures are usually videos to be watched at any time, and course credits are arranged to fit around your lifestyle, whether a full time employee or full time parent. A distance learning college degree does not require the same time-altering intensity that other college programs usually take.

It is important to state that the distance learning college degree, like any other college degree reflects the institution behind it, not the process of obtaining it. In other words, the value of a college degree lies in the school you earn it from, not whether it was through distance learning or not. In that sense, you lose absolutely nothing by getting a distance learning college degree from an accredited school that you would get at a similarly esteemed classroom college.

In short, whether you are looking for a new career, or advancing your current one, a distance learning college degree is an excellent choice.

Facts about Credit Cards…

When you hear of credit cards, what comes to your mind? For many people, it a catastrophe of numbers as they stare in disbelief at the balance, as if some fiscal Mr. Hyde had gone on a manic spree of shopping of virtually whatever he can get his hands on. For one thing, shopping with credit cards is different. This is because you do not see the money, all you have to do is give out the card and you get the card back. However, in reality, more than money has exchanged hands. As you may realize, shopping with credit cards may spell more trouble for your financial problems than dealing with cash, and for good reason.

The most widely used and honored cards are MasterCard and Visa, but they are far from the being the only ones. Credit cards are issued by financial institutions and they usually carry a $15 to $25 annual fee. However, depending on the credit history of the customer, this fee may sometimes be waived. His or her continued use of the card will also determine the interest charges and other ‘miscellaneous’ fees. In most cases, if payments are made in full, then no interest is charged. However, when a customer decides to pay in monthly installments, this will usually result in high interest charges. Again, depending on the applicant’s credit history, the financial institution will stipulate the spending limit of its customers. As you demonstrate your ability to pay, this spending limit is raised or lowered.

Using credit cards also has the advantage of allowing one to secure cash advances from automatic teller machines. However, there is a flip side to this. Obtaining cash this way is usually a costly affair. In fact, approximately anywhere between $2 and $5 are charged for every $100 borrowed in this way. What is more, interest on this cash is accrued from the day you withdraw the cash. Other institutions that offer credit cards include store chains, oil companies and travel and entertainment establishments. While some of these may not have any annual fees, the interest charged due to failure to pay in full any credit accrued may be much higher than that charged on bank cards.

From the above, it is therefore prudent to consider and wheigh your needs and options before obtaining a credit card. According to the Federal Reserve System of the U.S Government, you should take note of the annual percentage rate or APR, the annual fee, grace period, over-the-limit fees, late-payment charges as well as the cash-advance fees before applying for a card. You will save yourself some cash and a lot of heartache in the process.

It seems like with all of the hoopla, all of the stress, and all of the attention on a wedding, the amount of time, energy, and money spent on a good honeymoon is not enough. A honeymoon is just as important as a wedding in terms of starting a marriage off well. While a wedding is a public celebration of your marriage with family and friends, a honeymoon is an important and private experience to strengthen intimacy and unity. There are several great honeymoon destinations out there; here are some tips to help you choose one of the best honeymoon destinations for you.

One of the most popular and best honeymoon destinations is Hawaii. Ever since the advent of the jet airplane, traveling to Hawaii is only a half-day away for many people. Hawaii is an obvious choice for a honeymoon destination; the tropical environment and picture-perfect beaches are relaxing and soothing. Yet, Hawaii still offers plenty of adventure. Another classic honeymoon location of this sort is the Caribbean. Depending on where you live, Caribbean locations might be closer or easier to get to, and still offer the fun and sun of a great beach-side vacation.

Adventure is another key element of a great honeymoon; exploring an unknown world or activity, such as visiting ruins or hang-gliding, provide an exhilarating opportunity to bond. There really is no such thing as a perfect or best honeymoon destination. All of the above and many more qualify as the best honeymoon destinations. The key is to find the right honeymoon for you. Whether action-packed, beach-side relaxing or hip and urban, a great honeymoon really is starting your marriage off right!

Finding The Cheapest Mobile Phones…

If you want a mobile phone, there are a few ways that you can go. You can get the latest phone with all of the newest features. You can also look out for the cheapest mobile phones that you can find so that you have what you need without spending a fortune on a phone. Often, what you get depends on your personality. Some like to splurge on things like cellular phones, but others like to save money and any phone will do as long as it does what they need. They don’t care about the extras. If you want something inexpensive, your options are limited, but you can find what you need.

In some cases, the cheapest mobile phones are only cheap because you have to sign up for a contract when you buy it. You could get the newest phone on the market for thirty dollars, but is that really a cheap price? It depends on how you look at it. If you were going to need the contract anyway, then perhaps you have just gotten a great deal. However, if you do not want to be tied down to a contract and you have very limited need of a phone, this could not be the cheapest mobile phone you can get. It is costing you more if you include the price of the contract.

You may have to pay more for your phone if you do not go with a contract. Prepaid and month to month accounts are becoming more and more common. These use to be for people who did not have the credit to get a contract, but many find that they prefer these because they do not want to be obligated to yet another monthly bill that they can not get out of when they want something else. The phones you get are often not the cheapest mobile phones in way of price, but if you subtract the obligation, you may think you have gotten a great deal.

Probably the best way to get the cheapest mobile phones is to go with one of the discount cellular carriers. You can get a great low monthly price on your service and you can get a rather cheap phone too. Do not expect these phones to do a lot. You may be able to make and receive calls and text messages, but that is about it. Some have small memory stores, meaning you can only save a few contacts and have a few texts in your in-box, but the phone should function just fine. If you do not use yours a lot, this can be a great way to save money.

You may also want to buy older models that are still available, even if they are a few years old. You can get a great phone for less money this way. You just have to be able to live without the latest advancements in phones – which are usually extras you really don’t need anyway. Research the best phones from the years past and then see if you can find them. If you see many people still using an old model of phone, even if they have a contract, it means it was a good phone. You can then look for that when wanting to find the cheapest mobile phones on the market today.

Hey, What About the Car Wash Business?

I absolutely hate the idea of working for someone else my entire life. I don’t want to spend most of my waking hours slaving away for some faceless corporation where I’m just one employee out of thousands, where my labor and skills are making a bunch of money for that organization while I recoup only a fraction of that revenue in the form of a salary. No, I want to branch out on my own and be my own boss. After doing a lot of research into the different franchise opportunities out there, I’ve decided that buying a car wash business is right for me.

Out of all the franchises I looked into, a car wash business has a couple of distinct advantages. First of all, there’s a relatively low buy-in fee. Sure, we would all love to own a McDonald’s at busy intersection of a bustling city, but it takes big bucks to break into that game and getting a loan of that size just isn’t feasible at this point. But a car wash business is different. Depending on location and equipment, I can buy in for anywhere from $50,000 to $75,000, which is not bad at all. Most would-be investors can use their own capital for half of the start-up costs, take a loan out for the rest, and be up and running in no time.

Another advantage of a car wash business is that it’s a decent moneymaker that doesn’t require my full attention. I’ve talked to many current owners already, and they tell me they can retain about 30 to 40 percent of their gross revenues as profit. That’s a terrific rate that I would be perfectly satisfied with. I know it might take some time to start earning at that level, but I can be patient.

Right now, my focus is on getting a loan so I can become a franchisee. Towards that end, I’ve got to sit down and write a car wash business plan to bring to the bank with me. This could be a stumbling block, though, since I’ve never done anything like this before and hardly know where to start. I might have to bite the bullet on this one and hire a professional to create my car wash business plan for me. After all, this is a critical step since I won’t be able to move forward without bank approval for that loan.

Overall, I am very excited about venturing off on my own and starting a car wash business. I might not have all the details worked out yet, but a general vision is already taking shape. I’m not going to let the details stop me from pursuing my dream here. All I know is that once I secure the necessary funds and get my franchisee license, I’ll finally be my own boss and will have a much more fulfilling career as a result.

Get Inspired by Kitchen, Bedroom, and Bathroom Remodel Photos

I just purchased an 80-year-old house at a price that was simply too tempting to pass up. It’s in a great suburb with excellent schools, and is the kind of place I can envision raising a family. The only problem with getting a house this old is that it’s going to take a lot of work to bring it up to modern standards. In fact, I’m planning on renovating the entire interior, which is why I’m currently poring over kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom remodel photos every chance I get.

I’m going to start in the kitchen, where the bulk of the work will focus on opening up the space and replacing outdated appliances with the newest models. Some of the remodeling pictures I’ve seen have featured absolutely stunning cabinets and countertops, so I might decide to have those replaced as well. The scope of the project will ultimately depend on how much I need to do in my other rooms.

In addition to the kitchen stuff, I’ve been looking at bedroom and bathroom remodel photos as well. The bedrooms in this house are quite small, so I’m thinking of knocking out the walls between them in order to make them larger. I’ll probably end up going from four bedrooms to two, but that should work for the time being. I can always finish the basement at a later date and put another room down there. I also need to renovate the closets in the bedrooms because the current ones are barely more than crawlspaces. How the previous owners survived in here I’ll never know!

I’ve been having the most trouble deciding which bathroom remodel photos I like best. I’ve seen a number of terrific ideas that could work well in my house, but can’t get myself to commit to just one idea yet. Some of the bathroom remodel photos exhibit a great deal of creativity as far as showing how to get the most use out of a limited area. This is necessary because there’s no way I’m going to be able to expand the bathrooms like I’m doing for the bedrooms.

I think the smartest way to proceed from here is to choose the kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom remodel photos that I like best, and then consult with a contractor to see which ideas are the most feasible and affordable. I do need to keep an eye on the bottom line here, as I don’t want to negate the bargain price I paid for the house by spending the entire discount on renovations!

Uric Acid and Gout

Within our bodies lie a complex system of organs and tissues, and a wide range of metabolic and biochemical reactions taking place. The end result of all this activity can come in the form of nasty toxic substances which need to be removed for our bodies to remain in a comfortable and healthy state.

One of the nastier of these byproducts is a substance known as uric acid. Various body parts, such as the knees, toes and kidneys, can be affected by the crystals that form as a result of taking in too much uric acid.
If we put ourselves in the position of creating to much uric acid, we will eventually wind up with an affliction referred to as gout. Symptoms of gout include severe pain in joints, skin changing color, and loss of appetite, none of which is good.

There are many gout medications for sufferers to choose from; unfortunately, serious side effects from using them are possible. Natural gout remedies have become popular because of their lack of side effects. These natural gout remedies are simple and convenient, and offer much the same benefits as other gout remedies.

Vegetables and their juices have substances that nullify or neutralize the effect of uric acid and convert it into a harmless substance. A mixture of carrot juice, beet juice and cucumber juice, in the ratio 3:1:1, makes for a good gout remedy. This juice is said to treat patients with even severe gout conditions. It should be consumed in fairly large quantities though (at least half a liter a day), on a daily basis, to be effective. This may sound like a lot of liquid, but over the course of a day, it’s really not.

Fresh fruit offers similar benefits. Fruits and their juices help to speed up the recovery of those suffering from gout. Of the fruits that are available to gout sufferers, cherries may very well be the best choice, as the juice from cherries seems best to neutralize the uric acid and therefore help cure your gout. 20 cherries a day is what is recommended, and do this for at least two weeks.

The foods that you most want to stay clear of in large doses are tea, coffee, fried foods, meat, fish and eggs, as well as foods that are highly processed. Keep foods that are high in fat and carbs at a minimum as well.

Don’t be put off by the simplicity of these tips. They have worked for others and they can work for you too. Gout arises from chemical imbalances inside the body and by consuming the right food and drinks to restore the balance, the problem will disappear. And please don’t expect instant results, you have to persevere and show patience. As with other things in life, you sometimes have to wait a while to reap the benefits.

Rosacea Skin Care – Why It Is Important

There are many people who have a skin condition that causes their nose, cheeks, forehead and chin to become reddened as if sunburned. This skin condition is called rosacea. This condition is not life threatening, but it can be life altering. Those who suffer from rosacea flare-ups may become anxious because of their red skin. If you have rosacea it is crucial that you learn about rosacea skin care to keep flare ups to a minimum.

Why is skin care so important in people with rosacea? The answer lies in the outer layer of skin or the stratum corneum. This outer layer of skin is very fragile in people who suffer from rosacea. It is easily irritated and harsh scrubbing or chemicals can make the rosacea worse.

If you are trying to find a good rosacea skin care product you need to know what ingredients can do more damage than good. You should not use products that contain fragrances, witch hazel or salicylic acid. Steer clear of products that contain menthol or sodium lauryl sulfate. These ingredients will irritate the sensitive skin of a person with rosacea. It is a good idea to keep in mind that if a product burns or stings when applied you should not use it.

When you are searching for a good skin care product it is best to find one that has natural oils such as sunflower oils, aloe vera gel and jojoba oil. These oils are great natural moisturizers and will help to keep your skin healthy. Don’t forget the vitamins. You should find a product that has vitamins B5, A and E. These vitamins are important for skin rejuvenation.

Even though you may suffer from rosacea it should be a comfort to know that the redness can be managed by using a great rosacea skin care treatment. Do some searching and find one that is gentle and contains natural ingredients. Your rosacea may become a thing of the past with the right treatment.
